Amniotic Fluid Stem Cells Repair Gut Damage

Recently published in the scientific journal Gut, stem cells that were retrieved from amniotic fluid were applied to gut structure of rodents. The structure and function were reported to have been repaired. These new findings can signal new therapies coming out for treatment of babies' damaged gut and intestines.

Research institute gets millions for stem cell work

The California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) granted both the Coriell  Institute for Medical Research in Camden and Cellular Dynamics 16$ million and 10$ dollars respectively. These grants will be used to fund new research of induced pluripotent stem cell lines and to creat a iPSC bank.

At the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, researchers are conducting a two phase clinical trial to try and use bone marrow transplantation and physical therapy as treatment for those who have no other choice, as the patients in question were "...previously treated for at least six months without response," (News Medical).
